In recent RHS tennis action the Rams Boys Varsity kicked off the week of August 26 playing in the Elliott Pearce Invitational, hosted by Forest Hills Central High School. The EPI is a tourney the Rams play in annually and is well known to have one of toughest draws in the state for multi school tournaments.

While the competition was stiff, the Rams finished with one of their best showings ever, scoring 11 points in the tournament!

Taking matches on the day were the # 1, 2 and 3 singles players, Mark Vietengruber (versus GR Christian), Luke Van Fleet (versus East Kentwood) and Jerry Hewitt (versus Petoskey). Also taking matches in doubles play were #1 Sam Dater\Thomas Hall (versus Detroit Catholic Central) and #2 Ken Smith\John Macgregor (versus GR Catholic). Posting a pair of wins were #3 John D’Mour\Conner Krupp (versus Petoskey, St Joseph). Wrapping it all up on the day were #4 Ben Ramsey\Morgan Hale with two wins (versus Petoskey, GR Christian) good for 3rd place in their tournament flight.

All in all, a great day for an “Tom Izzo\MSU basketball like, TOUGH” early season tourney on the schedule and a great way to be “battle tested” for the rest of the season.

As of press time of this article, the Rams Boys Varsity Tennis team will have played two more matches (Monday 9\9-Northview, Wednesday 9\11-Grand Haven) as they continue on in preparation for the all important conference and regional tournaments in October. The Rams close out this very busy week with an away match against The Fighting Scots of Caledonia. Look for a report the week of 9\16 for the scores and highlights of these exciting RHS Varsity tennis matches!
