This week on the slopes, the Rockford Ski team competed in two conference races. The first race was on Tuesday, 1/27 at Cannonsburg. The team competes in two disciplines: slalom and giant slalom. Slalom is a tighter course, where giant slalom is wider turns. Best finishes for the girls were: Gertie Venckus 1st place in slalom, Maia Meuser 16th place in giant slalom, Karlee Kamminga 27th place in slalom, Carmen Santisteban 28th place in giant slalom, Abby Henschell 44th place in slalom. Best finishes for the boys were: Jordan Faber 10th place in both slalom and giant slalom, Ryan Mergener 19th place in slalom, Cole Demarest 42nd place in slalom, Jake Mortensen 48th place in slalom, and Connor Hoyle 52nd place in giant slalom.
On Friday, 1/30, the team traveled to Caberfae in Cadillac to compete in both Varsity and JV races. Enjoying a morning of three inches of fresh powder, the team did well in a different skiing environment. Skiing for the women in a varsity position and in order of finish were Gertie Venckus, Maia Meuser, Karlee Kamminga, Amara Colovos and Abby Henschell. The girl’s team is currently in 7th place in giant slalom and 6th place in slalom. Skiing for the men in a varsity position and in order of finish were Jordan Faber, Cole Demarest, Jake Mortensen, Connor Hoyle and Ryan Mergener. Currently, the boy’s team is in 8th place in both the slalom and giant slalom. Skiing for the JV team was Soren Astikainen. He finished 6th in the giant slalom and 3rd in the slalom. The entire Rockford Ski Team had a great time.
