Alcohol a factor in one-vehicle fatal accident

The driver of a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire lost control of the vehicle at 8:19 p.m. Sunday, June 28 on Summit Avenue just north of the intersection of Fourteen Mile Road. The vehicle struck a tree on the ? side of the road, lost control and rolled, pinning the two occupants in and killing one.

The Kent County Sheriff Department said the driver, was a 41-year-old female from Algoma Township, who suffered lacerations and arm injuries and was transported by Rockford Ambulance to Spectrum Hospital Downtown. The passenger, a 42-year-old male from Grand Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition to the Kent County Sheriff Department and Rockford Ambulance, the Algoma Township Fire Department responded to the scene.
