Rockford Tennis Player Makes History

On June 2-3, the Girls Varsity Tennis Team competed in the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals in Midland, led by seniors Allyson Healy, Grace Kropiewnicki, Kara Przybylski, Audrey Best and Lucy McCarthy. The entire team worked extremely hard all season leading up to this tournament. The Lady Rams finished in 10th place overall with a total of 6 points.

Sophomore, Alayna Bowman, #4 singles, was the first Rockford player to ever advance to a championship match in the state tournament. Bowman knocked off Utica Eisenhower early in the tournament 6-0 6-0. She fought hard to take down the #3 seed from Grand Blanc in her next match 6-4 6-4, putting her in to the semi-finals where she faced the #2 seed from Ann Arbor Pioneer. Bowman won that match 6-2 6-3. She faced #1 seeded Northville in a tough championship match, splitting sets, with a score of 0-6 6-2 1-6, finishing as state runner-up and making history for the Rockford High School tennis program. Alayna had an outstanding year with a 33-1 record in match and tournament play.

Sophomore, Delanie Riebschleger, # 3 singles, also contributed to the overall point total at states by defeating Ann Arbor Skyline 6-3 6-2.
