Plainfield Fire responds to serious single car crash, AeroMed unavailable

The Plainfield Fire Department (PFD) responded to a motor vehicle accident on Pine Island Drive north of Nine Mile Road at 9:48 a.m. hours Thursday, July 6.   This incident was a single vehicle crash involving a four door sedan with two occupants versus a tree. Arrival on scene found heavy intrusion of the engine into the passenger compartment. The driver was pinned in the vehicle due to the damage and was unconscious. The passenger was able to self-extricate with minor injuries and was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital by Rockford Ambulance. Plainfield arrived on scene at 9:52 a.m. hours. The driver was extricated using hydraulic tools at 10:20 a.m. by firefighters. The patient was transported by Rockford Ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries. PFD cleared the scene at 10:55 a.m.

Plainfield responded with the command vehicle, and four apparatus, and seven personnel. The department was assisted by Algoma Fire Department, Alpine Fire Department, and Grand Rapids Fire Department. Kent County Sherriff Department was responsible for the investigation.

Butterworth Aeromed was requested to transport the patient but was unavailable.   Borgess Air Care was then requested and was in flight with a 30 minute arrival time. Air Care was disregarded with 15 minutes of flight time remaining as the patient was extricated.
