The 11th annual Volley for Mitchell 4 on 4 volleyball tournament played on July 15 brought in $25,000 for Parent Project MD, the national organization with a mission to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Rockford, MI– The mercury on thermometer might’ve been pushing 90 but the players and spectators that turned out for the 11th annual Volley for Mitchell tournament would not be deterred. Over 40 teams of 4 braved the sweltering July heat to join the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the annual Volley for Mitchell tournament at Shots on the River, underwritten by AT&T.
“It was so unbelievably inspiring to see this many people turn out in support of this great event each year in blistering heat”, commented Jen Aldrich, Volley for Mitchell’s new tournament co-director.
What started out 11 years ago as a harebrained idea of three guys sitting around a backyard bonfire has grown into a one of Rockford’s, premier fundraising events. To date Volley for Mitchell has raised over $155,000 for Parent Project MD, the parent run organization whose mission is to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Pete MacGregor, one of the tournament’s founders, commented, “it amazes me every year to see the outpouring of support from the entire Rockford community for this event. It is truly special when you see over 300 people, players and spectators, come out on a hot summer afternoon to stand with Mitchell Peterson and his family in his fight against Duchenne”, added MacGregor.
Established 11 years ago, and held in conjunction with Mitchell’s Run through Rockford, Volley for Mitchell was created to give those who may not be a running enthusiast an opportunity to demonstrate their support for the mission of Parent Project MD.
“We want to thank AT&T for being a community leader and sponsoring VFM for 6 years now”, stated MacGregor. This year’s VFM raised $25,000 for Parent Project MD.
