American Legion to feature Echoes of the Past

Evening open to the public, cash bar

This is a night of music from the greatest era in American classic sound: Reba, Patsy Kline, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Elvis. A Tribute to the Stars will take place Saturday, October 28 at the American Legion Post #102, from 6 to 10 p.m. It will be a Halloween themed potluck party open to the public (costumes option) with a cash bar and amazing energy. Cover charge is just $5 for an evening of memories, food and cash bar.

The sounds of doo-wop, Motown, country and the smooth sounds of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, a wide ranging collection of America’s favorites. Legion Chaplain Jack Penkivech said the event is brand new. “We are bringing in paid professionals,” said Penkivech. “They even have their own following.”

Jimmy V. is leader of the band and one of the performers. He is a local and said performing here at home will be a special treat. The band limits their performances and only plays for American Legion halls.

“That’s our crowd,” he said. He is proud to help out at this event which is a fundraiser for the legion, which has been struggling financially. He bragged up the facility, which is beautiful, classy and has amble room for crowds of upwards of three hundred attendees.

Penkivech also is proud of the beautiful facility and looks forward to a big crowd the night of the Tribute to the Stars Show. He knows people who turn out for what will be the best Halloween party in Rockford will love the nostalgic music.

Jimmy said the show is really fun, with a musical background to the live performers. The five stars of the shows sing favorites everyone remembers and loves. Bear does the Motown music, tunes from the Four Tops, the Temptations and more. Jimmy does the doo wop music. “It’s a complete show without the orchestra behind us,” he said.

Enjoy the music and the cash bar, bring a dish for the buffet if you want, and settle in for hours of entertainment and wonderful memories. Mark the date and time and count down the hours to next Saturday night for a show that will keep you smiling and singing along all night.
