North Rockford Middle School January students of the month

Hope Deuel is a 6th grade student in our Community and Service team and the daughter of Jen and Brent Deuel.  She has two siblings named Ryann and Camden and attended Meadow Ridge elementary.

Hope is active in lacrosse and basketball and she enjoys sewing in her spare time.  Hope cheers for Michigan State and she hopes to become a teacher one day.

Some of her favorites include teacher Mrs. DeKuiper, math class, eating ice cream, the movie Wonder, the Hunger Games books and listening to pop music.  Hopes dream trip is to travel to Haiti.

She is most proud of getting good grades because she works hard for them and the person that she admires the most is her grandpa Deuel because he is always telling her stories from the “old days” and is always making people laugh.

Micah Frost is a 6th grade student in our Community and Service team and the son of Chad and Mary-Lyn Frost.  Micah attended Belmont elementary and he has one sibling named Nate and a dog named Chewbacca.

Micah is a part of the G.T. program at NRMS and is also active in indoor soccer and his youth church choir.  Micah cheers for Michigan State and he hopes to become either a professional soccer player or a famous singer one day.

Some of Micah’s favorites include his 5th grade teacher Mrs. Donovan, eating taco casserole, the new Jumanji movie, reading the Scorched series, and listening to pop music.  Micah’s dream trip is to travel to Hawaii to see the Volcano National Park.

Micah is most proud of his ability to make new friends, getting this student of the month award, and giving time to his church.  The person that he admires the most is his grandma because she always finds the good in everything.

Abby Denouden is a 7th grade student and the daughter of Jen and Jon.  She has one sibling named Delaney as well as two dogs named Drake and Rue.

Abby attended Rougewood elementary and is active in orchestra and dance.  She cheers for Michigan State and hopes to become a teacher one day.

Some of her favorites include science class with Mr. Saur and 7th grade social studies with Mrs. Deuel, eating all kinds of food, the movie Greatest Showman, the book The War that Saved My Life, and listening to pop music.  Her dream trip would be to travel to Italy.

Abby is most proud of her good grades in school and the people that she admires the most are her family and friends for always being there for her.

Chris Kellner is a 7th grade student and the son of Kirstin and Bob.  He has two siblings named Tim and Lauren as well as two cats named Acorn and Ashes.

Chris attended Valley View elementary and is active with French-American Cultural Exchange, Boy Scouts, and Odyssey of the Mind.  Chris enjoys playing the piano in his free time.  He cheers for the University of Michigan  and wants to become an architect one day.

Some of his favorites include rock social studies with Mr. Barr, eating barbeque ribs, the movie Pitch Perfect, the book Harry Potter- Order of the Phoenix, and listening to music from Broadway musical Hamilton.  Chris would like to take a European Tour trip one day.

He is most proud of getting this award and the person that he admires the most is Lin-Manuel Miranda, the writer of the musical Hamilton, because he made a chapter of American history fun to learn about.

Mara Sweeney is an 8th grade student and the daughter of Teri and Kevin Sweeney.  She has three siblings named Kyle, Emma, and Avery as a dog named Flash and a cat named Snowflake.

Mara attended Valley View elementary and is active in track, cross country, swimming, basketball, and plays flute in the band.  She also enjoys crafts, watching tv, and running in her free time.  Mara cheers for Michigan State and hopes to go into law enforcement one day.

Some of her favorites include teachers Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Slagel, eating mac and cheese, the movie Batman, the book Bruiser, and listening to pop music.  Her dream trip would be to travel to Paris one day.

Mara is most proud of getting good grades and the person that she admires the most is her mom because she is always strong and kind.

Caleb Slabaugh is an 8th grade student and the son of Anthony and Carla.  He has two siblings named Jacob and Elizabeth as well as a dog named Winston.

Caleb attended Belmont elementary and is active in baseball and snowboarding.  Jacob loves to simply go outside.  He cheers for GVSU and he wants to go to college and get a good job when he is older.

Some of Caleb’s favorites include gym class, teacher Mr. Long, eating pizza, any of the Star Wars movies, the Maze Runner books and listening to rap music.  Caleb’s dream trip would be to travel to Hawaii one day.

Caleb is most proud of his mom and dad because they are great and loving parents.  The person that he admires the most is his brother.
