Rockford takes fourth at the annual Freshman Sophomore Invitational

Rockford swimmers compete at the annual Freshman Sophomore Invitational in Grandville.

February 1st saw the Freshman and Sophomores from the Rockford men’s swim team travel to Grandville for the annual Freshman Sophomore invite. 22 swimmers competed for Rockford against 5 other schools.

In the first event, the 200 yard Medley Relay, there were 14 relay teams. Rockford’s A relay placed 3rd with team of Ben Schuchardt swimming Backstroke, Matthew Weber swimming the Brest Stroke, Logan Lovall swimming the Butterfly and Trey Williams swimming the Freestyle. Rockford’s B relay team of Drew Bargswell, Bendan Chaudoir, Elijah Chino, and Kyle Dedert placed 8th. Rockford’s C relay team of Jordan Miller, Jackson Irwin, Liam Smith, and Cade Dorer placed 13th.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Logan Lovall placed 2nd out of 20 swimmers. Ben Schuchardt placed 4th with a personal best time. Nick Deugaw placed 14th with his personal best. Cade Dorer also had a personal best and placed 17th.

The 200 yard Individual Medley saw Matthew Weber place 4th out of 18 swimmers with a personal best time. Trey Williams placed 14th with his personal best. Brendan Chaudoir placed 15th in his first time swimming the event this year.

In the 50 Freestyle, Nate Hopkins swam to a personal best 25.63 for an eleventh place finish out of 48 in the event. James Rolewicz swan his personal best with a 26.17 for 14th place. Dominic Galang took 21st. Brenden Saur placed 23rd. William Lepech placed 24th. Jordan Miller had a personal best for 33rd place and Jackson Irwin dropped almost a second for his personal best and 38th.

The 100 yard Butterfly saw Elijah Chino place 4th out of 14 swimmers with a personal best time of 1:01.83. Nate Hopkins placed 6th and Kyle Dedert dropped over 2 seconds off his personal best for 12th.

In the 100 yard Freestyle, 41 swimmers competed. Trey Williams dropped over a second off his personal best for 7th place at 55.56. James Rolewicz placed 11th with his personal best. Nick Deugaw placed 18th. William Lepech dropped almost a second for 27th place.

In the 500 yard Freestyle, Logan Lovall placed 4th out of 19 swimmers. Elijah Chino placed 14th. Cade Dorer took 15th and Liam Smith dropped over a second off his best time for 18th.

The 200 yard Freestyle Relay had 15 relay teams entered in the event. Rockford’s “A” relay team of Nate Hopkins, Bendan Chaudoir, Kyle Dedert, and Ben Schuchardt placed 6th just 1.63 seconds behind first place in the event. Rockford’s “B” relay team of Drew Bargswell, Matthew Weber, Elijah Chino, and James Rolewicz placed 7th. Rockford’s “C” relay team of Dominic Galang, Brendan Saur, Joe Richards, and Nick Deugaw placed 10th.

In the 100 yard Backstroke, Ben Schuchardt swam a personal best and placed 2nd out of 17 swimmers. Kyle Dedert dropped over a second and placed 4th. Drew Bargswell placed 10th. Jordan Miller was 14th and Dominic Galang was 15th.

The 100 yard Breast stroke had Matthew Weber place 4th out of 20 swimmers. Brendan Chaudoir dropped over 4 seconds off his best time while placing 9th. Brenden Saur placed 14th and Liam Smith placed 17th.

In the 400 freestyle relay Rockford’s “A” relay team of Nate Hopkins, James Rolewicz, Trey Williams, and Logan Lovall placed 3rd out of the 14 relay teams in the event.

Friday night saw the 1 meter diving event. Out of the 10 divers, the two Rockford divers both had good performances. Austin Hintz placed 3rd and Josh Vickery placed 4th.

Rockford finished 4th at the event just one point behind Holland West Ottawa who placed third.
