Thursday evenings provide the residents of Rockford with the pleasure of hearing some of the area›s best amateur music. Rockford’s Open Mic Night at the dam, which takes place at the Garden Club Park stage, is proud to celebrate another year and invite everyone to come and enjoy this inspired music.

Open Mic started as the brainchild of Sue Jazwiec many years ago. the weekly event has since been taken up by organizer Jim Wendling and Barry Bell, who set up the state and sign up performers every Thursday evenings during summer months.

Open Mic host Wendling says, “What’s exciting is you never know what to expect. We have had so many wonderful evenings with extremely talented people displaying their musical abilities. It is my job as host to make people feel comfortable and ease their anxieties
about performing.”

Signing up for a performance slot begins at 5:30 p.m. each Thursday. The music begins at 6:30 and runs until 9 p.m. It is held each Thursday evening in the month of June, July and August. Should it rain, the event is held in the Rotary pavilion across from Arnie’s. As host Barry Bell stated, “Folks should bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy all that downtown has to offer.”
