Legislation sponsored by state Sen. Peter MacGregor to name a portion of M-44 in Kent County in honor of fallen Michigan State Police Trooper Timothy O’Neill was signed by Governor Snyder
Senate Bill 960 designates the section of M-44 between Rogue River Road northeast to Belding Road as the “Michigan State Trooper Timothy O’Neill Memorial Highway.”
“Trooper Timothy O’Neill served and gave his life for our community,” said MacGregor, R-Rockford. “That his life was cut so short is a tragedy, and we mourn for his family and friends. While there is nothing that we can do to fully repay his sacrifice, we can do something to honor his memory. The ‘Michigan State Trooper Timothy O’Neill Memorial Highway’ will remind Kent County residents of him and his service each and every day.”
Trooper O’Neill died in the line of duty on Sept. 20, 2017 in a motorcycle crash while on patrol. O’Neill served out of the MSP Rockford Post, which he joined in 2014 after graduating from the 126th Trooper Recruit School. He is survived by his fiancée, parents and siblings.
