The Building Character Celebration is an event put on each year by The President Ford Field Service Council and a local Community Sponsors, like The Meijer Foundation, Frey Foundation, Van Andel Family Foundation and Jandernoa Foundations. The Celebration highlights the service of Scouting in the community. This year 14,609 youth were served, 224 Scouts earned the Rank of Eagle and over 1,600 youth attended a Summer Camps across the state.
224 young men earned the Rank of Eagle in 2018, names the Eagles, the project featured, the organization that benefited from the Eagle Project and the Charter Organization that sponsors the Troop or Crew was highlighted.
Each year the President Ford FSC Board, recognizes a person or persons in the Community who impact that community by their service, dedication and phlanthrape. The North Star Distinguished Citizen Award recipients were David and Judy Frey.
In addition, The National Outstanding Eagle Scout award was bestowed upon, Mr. William M. Blynn and Dr. Robert L. Daniels for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the Scouting movement.
This years’ guest speaker, Retired NASA Astronaut and Eagle Scout, Gregory Johnson entertained the crowd with videos, pictures and stories from space.
Eagle Scout Gabriel Betz from Rockford Lions Club Troop 264, was featured on stage at the event with an impromptu question and answer period.
