Open Mic season underway

Thursday, June 13 is the first night of what has become a summer tradition in Rockford with Open Mic Night each Thursday at Garden Club Park stage by the Rogue River in downtown Rockford. Once again Thursday evenings will provide residents in the Rockford community the opportunity to hear some of the area’s best local amateur talent. Not only are people encouraged to come to listen, but to also perform the musical talents they have developed. The Open Mic season takes place every Thursday evening with the finale on August 22.

Additionally, Open Mic Night is a great reason to incorporate “No Cook Thursday” into your week by visiting one of our local restaurants or bringing a picnic to the show. Also, be sure to bring a chair or a blanket to spread on the grass while you enjoy the music. Open Mic host Jim Wendling says, “I feel that throughout the years I have been able to create a relaxed and supportive environment for people to perform. Everybody is here to have fun. Many people play music at hime and the stage at the Rockford dam gives them a place to display their talents for friends and family.”

Signing up for a performance slot begins at 5:30 p.m. each Thursday at the Rockford dam stage. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. If it should rain, the event is held in the Rotary Pavilion across the street from Arnie’s Restaurant. Should you have any further questions about Open Mic, feel free to contact Jim Wendling at 616-717-1455.
