by Pastor Michael Cisler, North Kent Bible Church
I recently moved away from Rockford after living in the community for over 20 years. What a blessing it is to have been a part of this community! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” In the twenty years my family was here we never felt like we were alone. We found friends willing to help us up everywhere we went. Local businesses, service organizations, parent organizations, public servants, kind cashiers, school administrators, fellow clergy members, students, rival softball players…the list goes on and on of those who have been a part of making our community so great.
On June 20 North Kent Bible Church hosted a going away dessert open house for my family which was such a blessing. It gave us an opportunity to be able to say good-bye to so many from our community. Thank you to all those who came to the open house, to those who have stopped me in the community to say good-bye, to Meadow Ridge Elementary for your kind luncheon, and to all of you who have helped to make our time here in Rockford such a blessing. Thanks especially to North Kent Bible Church for your graciousness in our departure and your incredible generosity and goodness to me and my family over the past two decades. You helped us grow into a joyful family and helped me grow into the pastor that I am today. You have made my ministry a delight.
Going back to Ecclesiastes 4, verse 12 says, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” This third strand is referring to the relationship that is strengthened when God is a part of it. I’m thankful that I share a belief in God and His son, Jesus Christ, with so many within this community as well. As we served together to make a positive impact within our world by showing God’s love to others, it has strengthened our bond of friendship. May you be blessed as you shine your light of love to others around you. Thank you and God bless you.
