Harvest Festival ends with smiles, prizes

Costume contest winners stand with their prizes. Judging was very difficult this year.

Aunt Candy of Aunt Candy’s Toy Company was thrilled with the turnout during the last weekend of Harvest Festival, especially the tons of kids in the annual costume contest. The Squire vacations in Turkey

JUST ARRIVED—The Rockford Squire appears in Istanbul, Turkey’s Grand Bazaar in late summer 2010, transported by Ron and Linda Denhof of Rockford. The Grand Bazaar is the oldest, largest covered market in the world, offering exciting experiences bargaining for carpets, silks and exotics.

The Denhofs, with their son John and his family, sailed the Aegean Sea along the Turkish coastline for a week. They also explored the mosques, palace, mausoleums and the ruins of the only remaining “Ancient Wonders of the World” in Instanbul and Bodrum. A belly-dance show completed a grand time amongst the friendly people of Turkey.

Harvest Festival Happenings

Harvest Festival events that take place all three weekends include a pumpkin decorating contest at Sweet Tooth, 53 E. Bridge St., starting at 11 a.m. with judging at 1:30 p.m. Bring your own pumpkin or one will be provided, while they last. Kids of all ages are invited. Another kid favorite is the Make-it Take-it Scarecrow event at the Rockford Historical Society (at the dam).
