Rockford’s top ten academic graduates honored

In a large school district like Rockford, with 610 students in the graduating class, earning top 10 academic honors is an incredible achievement. Rockford’s top 10 students are an example of excellence for our district. If you see any of these students in the future, congratulate them on their hard work and wish them well in their future endeavors. Rockford will be proudly represented in these students as they work toward their next accomplishments.

Allison Dodgers

Allison Dodgers

Allison Dodgers is the tenth-ranked student in the 2009 Rockford High School graduating class. With a grade-point average (GPA) of 4.527, Dodgers is the daughter of Chuck and Karen. Her favorite subjects in school include choir, literature, science and math. In addition to working hard on academics, Dodgers participated in school musicals, “Oliver” in her junior year and “Beauty and the Beast” this year, where she played Mrs. Potts. She also takes private voice lessons, does volunteer work and is active in her church youth group.

Dodgers plans to major in biology and has the long-term goal of going into the medical field while remaining strongly affiliated with her church, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and becoming involved in missionary work.

Lena Sims

Lena Sims

Sharing the rank of the eighth-highest graduating senior is Lena Sims, the daughter of Connie and Les. Sims graduated with a GPA of 4.546. The classes she found most enjoyable at RHS include physics and accounting courses. The student-athlete also competed in crew for three years. Sims is a member of the National Honor Society and is a volunteer for C-Snip. She will attend Ohio State University to study business, but has not yet decided on a business specialty. She has not made a decision on what her career will be, but it will be in the business field, perhaps in the financial world. 

 

 

Trevor Holloway

Trevor Holloway

Trevor Holloway is the sixth-ranked RHS class of 2009 graduate. The son of Donald and Lela, Holloway graduates with a GPA of 4.570. Among Holloway’s favorite subjects are AP physics and AP chemistry.

A student-athlete as well as an accomplished academic student, Holloway also participated in crew and marching band. He played in the wind ensemble band, is a National Honor Society Member, has been a Boy Scout, and is active in community service and his church.

Holloway will attend Purdue University where he plans to study aerospace engineering. He plans on a career in engineering or as a missionary pilot.

Marie Albano

Marie Albano

Graduating fourth in her RHS class of 2009 is Marie Albano, daughter of Lawrence and Karen. Albano graduates with a GPA of 4.607. She said her favorite classes include science and math courses.

Albano is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, a two-year participant in band, and is a six-year student-athlete competing in crew. She has been a CVS/Pharmacy summer intern at Ferris State University (2008), has volunteered on mission trips, including her fourth this summer, and has earned the Girl Scout Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. She has worked since the summer of 2007 at the Grand Traverse Pie Company.

Planning on attending Niagara University, Albano will study biochemistry. She plans to become a nuclear pharmacist. 

Patrick Kolehouse

Patrick Kolehouse

Rockford’s second-highest graduate in academic achievement is Patrick Kolehouse, son of Don and Debie. Kolehouse graduates with a GPA of 4.646. Among his favorite classes at RHS, Kolehouse counts math, science, government and history. In addition to his academic interests, Kolehouse has been involved in theater and camp counseling. Next year, Kolehouse will attend Denison University and plans to pursue higher education post-graduation. Kolehouse is still exploring his options before deciding on a major of study. 

Rachel Doud

Rachel Doud

Rachel Doud is one of two students who share the ranking of number eight in her graduating class. She is the daughter of Bret and Nancy. Doud graduates from RHS with a GPA of 4.546. Favorite subjects at school for Doud are math and science; advanced conditioning. In addition to academic studies, Doud is a student-athlete competing in soccer. She is the president of the Rockford National Honor Society and is a member of BridgeWay Church Youth Group. She has taken missionary trips to New Orleans, La., and Neebish Island.

Doud will attend Hope College next year and plans to go on to medical school. She is undecided in her major, but does plan to become a doctor.

Allison Stephens

Ranked number seven in academic achievement for her graduating class is Allison Stephens, daughter of Maureen and Robert. Stephens graduated with a GPA of 4.561. Her favorite classes at RHS include English, literature and Spanish. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Stephens was also a student-athlete competing in golf and cheerleading. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and the president of the Rockford Youth Initiative. She has been a blood-drive coordinator, Special Olympics coach, a Relay For Life team captain, and a student guide.

Planning to major in education, Stephens will attend Grand Valley State University honors college. She hopes to become a special education teacher.

Rick Dykstra

Rick Dykstra

Graduating fifth in his class this year is Rick Dykstra, son of Steve and Yvonne. Dykstra counted among his favorite classes math and science. A student-athlete, Dykstra competed in cross country, where he was captain of his team. He is also involved in his church youth group.

Dykstra plans to attend Wake Forest University, where he will study chemistry or biology. He is considering going into medicine.

 

 

 

 

Kyle Trimble

Kyle Trimble

 

Rockford’s third-highest graduate is Kyle Trimble, son of Jeff and Julie. Trimble graduated with a GPA of 4.641 and counted biology and literature as among his favorite courses at Rockford. Trimble is a National Honor Society member, has been an officer of Rockford’s Youth Initiative, has been a Special Olympics coach and a member of the Roller Hockey Club.

Next year, Trimble will attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where he will major in biology. He plans to move on to medical school after his undergraduate career is complete, and eventually become a doctor.

 

Nicole Stegmeier

Nicole Stegmeier

Rockford’s top graduating student for the RHS class of 2009 is Nicole Stegmeier, daughter of Jeff and Cindy. Her graduating GPA is 4.676. Stegmeier said her favorite classes include physiology and other science courses. This outstanding academic student is also a student-athlete who competed in tennis. She is a National Honor Society member and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Planning on attending the University of Michigan next year, Stegmeier plans to major in pre-medicine with the career goal of becoming a heart surgeon.
