In 1980, Rosario and Angela Candela left their homeland of Motelepre, Sicily, looking for a new start in America. Along with their three children, Sam, Joe and Anna, the couple worked with relatives in a local restaurant as they adjusted to life in America. Gaining experience and longing for their own personal tradition preparing Italian cuisine, the family opened a restaurant in 1982. Angela’s Pizza started as a small take-out pizza place located across the street. In 1985, the restaurant moved to its present location, and by 1995 became a full-service restaurant—Angela’s Italian Restaurant, located at 240 E. Division in Sparta, offering authentic Italian cuisine. Rosario and Angela continue the tradition of preparing the finest Italian cuisine along with the assistance of family members including Sam and his wife Lucy, Anna and her husband Domenico, and Joe. With the help of employees and the support of its patrons, Angela’s Restaurant has put a little touch of old world Italy in the community of Sparta. As a close-knit family, Rosario and Angela appreciate spending time with their children and 10 grandchildren. The family regularly travels to Sicily to visit relatives and brings back new recipes to add to their menu. Angela’s Restaurant offers daily specials (see their advertisement below), and welcomes everyone to stop in for an authentic Italian dining experience.
