Over 50,000 Rockford Rotary chicken dinners sold Dear Editor,  Rockford Rotary Club is again serving its famous BBQ chicken dinners during the first weekend of Harvest Fest, Friday and Saturday, September 25-26, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, September 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drive-up service is available at the Rotary Pavilion at Courtland and Squires streets. Rotary’s famous chicken BBQ goes back to 1982, and has been part of the opening weekend of Harvest Fest ever since. Thanks to the great support of the Rockford area business community, this year’s pre-sales of dinners have put the all-time total of dinners sold to over 50,000. Many businesses purchase 10 or more dinners to give as employee “atta boys” or to give as customer appreciation gifts. The over $200,000 raised over this period have built the Rotary Pavilion, helped support the Rotary Park on Fremont Street, paid for lighting of the dam, helped pay for renovation of the Rockford Community Cabin, sponsored the Rockford Reading Festival, supported North Kent Service Center, and on and on.
