Community invited to enjoy turkey dinner with all the trimmings   Rockford Reformed Church has been a part of the Rockford community since 1959. They are an outreach-focused congregation and truly enjoy being involved in the community. For the fourth year in a row, the church hopes to once again serve more than 150 patrons on Thanksgiving Day. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for a special Thanksgiving blessing with meal service starting at 1:00 p.m. “We as a church are so very fortunate and blessed to have a Family Life Center that we enjoy sharing with the community,” said Mary Newkirk, dinner organizer at the church. “We have a large building, many volunteers and the means, and we feel a dinner would be of help. Our dinners are not only hot, homemade and delicious, but great family fun as well.” Newkirk stresses that the complimentary meal does help those in a struggling economy, but is also offered to help those who have family out of town, who are new to the area, or simply families looking for a fun place to spend Thanksgiving Day. “We even have the funds to gift attending families with prizes and giveaways,” said Newkirk. The youth room will also be open for all the kids with fun activities planned for all ages. “Rockford is such a fabulous town; I love how willing we all are to help one another. If each of us reaches one person, it is pretty amazing what can be accomplished. The blessings we receive are pretty awesome as well,” shared Newkirk. “So, we hope to see lots of folks spend Thanksgiving Day with us.” Rockford Reformed Church is “the beacon on the hill,” located at 4890 Eleven Mile Road, Rockford.
