The West Michigan Youth Ballet is gearing up for their spring performance of the ballet Cinderella – a favorite ballet for all ages. Three Rockford students are part of the ballet company, and they invite their friends, teachers and school mates come and see them perform this Saturday. In the title role during the 1p.m. performance,  Kathleen Bomer,  a Rockford High School senior, will play the role of Cinderalla.  Elizabeth Hekman from Ada will dance the role of Cinderella during the 4:30 show. In that show, Kathleen can be seen in the solo role of the Winter Fairy. Kathleen, who has been with the WMYB since 2007,  has been dancing since she was two years old, so this is her 16th year in ballet shoes. When not rehearsing with WMYB, she is a student and apprentice teacher at her home dance studio, Academy of Dance Arts in Comstock Park. At RHS, this honor student plays the flute and the piccolo in the Wind Ensemble. Kathleen’s college plans are not firmed up at this point, but we know that she will not just be playing a “little flute” wherever she goes.  A newcomer to the WMYB this year is Katerina Rozelle, a fifth grade student at Valley View Elementary. Katerina is a Numeral in both the 1 and 4:30 p.m. shows. She hails from Russia, and her mom said that she had the dance gene in her when she was adopted at the age of five, and joined a family of five other siblings. Katerina is a student of Rhythm Dance in Belmont. Back on stage with the WMYB is Lauren Hyink, a fifth grader at Cannonsburg Elementary. If Lauren’s name sounds familiar it is because she was recently featured as an Example of Excellence by Douglas photography, Rockford Public Schools and The Rockford Squire newspaper. In Cinderella, Lauren will be a mouse, a ballroom girl and a summer sprite. Lauren is a student at the Ada Dance Academy.  Besides dancing, she keeps busy with piano lessons and singing in her church’s choir.   We invite all children to come to the performances dressed in their favorite Cinderella costume. A drawing will be held at each show, and two girls from the audience will be […]
