On Sunday, April 3, Central Michigan University’s (CMU) cheerleading teams held their year-end banquet to honor their athletes. Jessica McDaniel, a four-year cheerleader, was honored as a senior leader of the all-girl cheer team. The first award she received was for the Senior Captain of the All Girl Squad for the 2010-2011 season. Her second award was the Four-year CMU Program Award for completion of four years of cheerleading at a collegiate level. The most prized and team-voted award of Most Valuable Player was also received by McDaniel. Coach Pat Beime praised McDaniel highly for her awards, complimenting her for her leadership skills and an “untarnished exuberance for life.” The other members of the cheer squad had a chance to stand and give their praises and high compliments to all the senior award recipients. Katie Sakala, a junior and three-year member on the team, was also honored with the Most Valuable Player award from the all-girl team. The two former Rockford teammates were honored to be chosen by their current CMU squad for this award. Sakala will continue to cheer for CMU as a senior next year. McDaniel is graduating on May 7 as a dietetics major with a B.S. degree.
