Monday evening, March 30, the Lady Rams dropped a tough game to Okemos, 13-7. The Rams started strong, scoring the first goal and holding an early 2-1 lead. The girls went back and forth with the Chieftains for most of the first half. Okemos went on a run late in the first half and the Rams could not answer. Andi Raymond, Meagan Emery and Abbey Neerken led the Rams with outstanding play at both ends of the field. It was a tough loss for the Lady Rams, who had three starters out with illness or injury. On Wednesday, April 1, the Rockford girls rebounded against Mattawan, scoring early and often to take a commanding 10-1 lead at the half. The Lady Rams never looked back, earning a 15-7 victory. The Rockford girls kept their composure through an onslaught of rough play from Mattawan, where several yellow cards and one red card were assessed against the Mattawan team. Once again, Raymond led all scorers with five goals and seven assists. Emery added five goals, Michon Moline three, and Neerken two. Goalie Gabby Twiest was especially strong in goal, recording nine saves while playing a behind a defense decimated by injury and illness. Taylor Balch, who moved from attack to defense during the game, and Alyssa Neumen were instrumental in helping defend against Mattawan and their relentless attack. The Lady Rams have a non-league contest at home on April 15 versus Waverly and then move into their conference opener at East Grand Rapids on Friday, April 17.
