Catholic Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be gathering at the quaint setting of the Life Process Center in Lowell for another weekend of fellowship, prayer, mass, and live music, music sessions provided by Ignition Ministry August 5-7. President and speaker for Ignition Ministry, Matt Galloway, proudly stated, “We seek to ignite a flame of passion and desire for Jesus’ unending love to everyone we come in contact with through messages, praise, fellowship, catechesis, and youth ministry as our mission statement,” with this year’s theme, “Break Free.” Hosted by the Grand Rapids Catholic Committee on Scouting annually every August, Catholic youth and adults can expect a weekend filled with prayer, reflection, live music, skits, Mass, Reconciliation, and service projects for the retreat center. Deacon Leo Ferguson of St. Anthony of Padua and Bob Ungrey, Grand Rapids Catholic Committee training chairman, will offer adult Scout leaders a special training course, Scouter Development and Religious Emblems Counselor trainings to prepare volunteers to use the Scouting programs as youth ministry. A separate program will be offered with fun activities for Cub Scouts and younger Girl Scouts on Saturday, Aug. 6. Father Andy Thompson, CSsR, who became an Eagle Scout at the young age of 13, led mass for the participants on Saturday night at last year’s retreat. Father Andy reflects on this prestigious award and stated that it was attained through determination, dedication and his Catholic faith.
