Rockford woman’s work to be displayed

The work of Liisa Rupert Rush won a juror’s recognition award at the 25th West Michigan Regional Art Competition at the Lowell Area Arts Council’s King Gallery. See “Dragonfly,” an oil painting, February 22 to April 8 with a public reception on Sunday, March 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Gallery hours for the Lowell Area Arts Council are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The Lowell Area Arts Council is located at 149 S. Hudson, Lowell.

Kitchen design seminar to be held

DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Greater Grand Rapids announces a free design seminar, entitled “Beyond Fads: Latest Trends in Kitchen Design.” It will take place on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the DreamMaker Design Center, 4658 West River Dr., Comstock Park. Garden Club offers $1,000 scholarship

The Rockford Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to any local current graduating high school senior or recent graduate majoring in horticulture studies, landscape architecture, environmental science, conservatory management, organic farming or associated, related fields. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student attending any college in the fall of 2011 and can be used for tuition and/or books. The scholarship is open to all area graduates and recent graduates. Deadline is March 31, 2011.

Saturday, March 5 3rd Annual Bands on the Grand Festival—9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Forest Hills Eastern High School Auditorium, 2200 Pettis Ave. NE, Ada; parking at Knapp Street entrance to the school. Admission is free; hosted by the Forest Hills Adult Community Band. Concessions will be available to purchase. Each band will perform a public 45-minute concert before adjudicators for critique and then receive a private 30-minute clinic with a professional/college level band directors.
