Rockford Marching Band gives outstanding performance in Belding

by AMELIA BEAN The weather could not have been more perfect this past Saturday night as the Rockford High School Marching Band stepped out onto the field at the Belding Marching Invitational. The inky black night sky was perfectly clear, aside from the luminous full moon, and the thermometer registered a balmy 68 degrees at show time. The stadium lights glinted off the band members helmets as they filled the end zone and readied themselves for the performance, and what a performance it was. Director of Bands, Brian Phillips, commented, “I thought it was a solid show for our competitive season debut. The students have shown that they truly want to take the band to the next level. I’m excited to see what they will accomplish by the end of the season.” With a final score of 78.55, Rockford earned the highest score of the evening. The sacrifice these students and their instructors make to craft the finest performance possible is evident each time they take the field. From the soaring crescendos in the opening movement to the most subtle strains in the ballad, to the emotion conveyed by the color guard, the devotion of this band to give only their best is apparent. The band will travel to Pontiac this Saturday, October 6, to compete in the Bands of America Regionals.
