Bylsma receives Navy Achievement Medal

Chad Jay Bylsma, a 2005 Rockford High School graduate and son of Pam Bylsma of Rockford, has recently been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for excellence in his work. Since joining the Navy in 2005, Bylsma is now a Petty Officer Second Class Machinist Mate, supervisor of an engine room watch team, and a planned maintenance supervisor of machinery division, harnessing nuclear power to provide propulsion, electricity and water to 5,000 people on the USS John C Stennis aircraft carrier in Bremerton, Wash.

Winters graduates from training

Army Pvt. Brian N. Winters graduated from the Multiple Launch Rocket System Operations/Fire Direction Specialist Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course  at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The course is designed to train the students on how to record and transmit  firing data, operate fire direction systems and multiple launch rocket system  communication equipment.  They also learn to gather operations and intelligence data, and plot that  data using charts, maps and records. They learn to drive specialized vehicles, maintain and use generators, and install and maintain a wide range of  communications equipment. He is the son of Troy A. Winters of Rockford, Mich., and  Robin K. Winters of Cedar Springs, Mich. His wife, Brenda, is the daughter of Alan Hosmer of 104th St., Howard City,  Mich.  The private is a 2009 graduate of Creative Technologies Academy, Cedar  Springs.
