Mrs. Luella “Lu” Markham

Markham  Mrs. Luella “Lu” Markham, age 85, of Rockford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 6, 2011. She was a 1944 graduate of Rockford High School. Lu was an executive secretary and loving mother. During the time she worked away from the home, one of her positions was at the Kent County Extension Service for 14 years, and her last position was executive secretary to the director of the Kelvinator Distribution Center. Lu retired, and when her husband retired from work, they spent many winters in Tucson, Ariz. She enjoyed teaching 16 girls how to sew in a 4-H Club and served as treasurer of the Last Horton School reunion. She was a member of the Good Sam RV Club, the Apple Blossom Good Sam’s Club, Chapter 51, where she also served as treasurer. She is survived by her children, Darayl and Terry Markham of Rockford, Mrs. Sandra Ratajczak of Rockford, and Janet and Larry Goemaat of Hawaii; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, on June 9, 2009; her son, Jay C. Markham; her grandson, James Matthew Markham; son-in-law, Jerry Ratajczak. The service for Mrs. Markham will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Pederson Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment will be in White Swan Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Arrangements were made by Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford.
