Rockford High School (RHS) recently announced that senior Shain Showers has officially committed to play baseball at NCAA Division One University of Evansville. Showers was recruited as a shortstop. Evansville, coached by Wes Carroll, plays in the very strong Missouri Valley Conference. In 2011, Evansville defeated Big 10 champions Michigan State twice. Also, since 1995, Evansville has had 29 players selected in the Major League Baseball first-year player draft and 51 players overall. In 2010 as a sophomore, Showers was All OK Red Conference, All District, and All Region. In 2011 as a junior, he helped lead the Rams to their second OK Red conference title in three years and their first ever state title. He provided a huge hit that tied the game in the sixth inning and then proceeded to score the winning run in the state finals. In 2011 as a junior, Showers again was All OK Red Conference, All District, and All Region. Showers, a smooth fielding shortstop, is regarded as one of the top middle infielders in the state of Michigan and also the Midwest. As impressive as Showers is on the baseball field, he is more impressive in the classroom. He currently carries a 3.98 grade-point average. In the summer, he plays travel baseball for Rockford Team Ram and Diamonds. Team Ram is coached by RHS varsity assistant coach, Steve Fusee. Showers is the son of Scot and Nancy Showers of Rockford.
