Chandler Woods Charter Academy third-grade students have been studying the economy, goods and services and on Friday, May 27, they demonstrated what they’ve learned. All the youngsters have applied and interviewed for “jobs” in their classrooms for Market Day. They set up booths and sold food, bookmarks, flower pots, jewelry, and applied make-up and gave manicures for teachers, family and classmates. The students earned “paychecks” for their “jobs” and paid pretend taxes, rent and fines—just like the real world! All their leftover money went into their “savings account” or was to be spent at the class store. Friends and family who attended Market Day received money to spend as they wished at the marketplace. This dynamic, fun and educational event was tons of fun for friends, family and students as they wrapped up the school year.
