A Grattan Township woman was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Ten Mile Road on Wednesday, October 28. Forty-six-year-old Toni Hall died when a trailer which appeared homemade came loose from the van towing it and struck her vehicle. The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. on Ten Mile Road between Je Ne Be Drive and Brower Lake Road. The trailer apparently became airborne after disconnecting with the van towing it, flew over the car in front of Hall’s and struck Hall’s SUV in the windshield. It was reported the tongue of the trailer hit both driver and passenger in the car. Thomas Dells, 58, of Rockford, was the driver of the van towing the trailer. Kathleen Rahe, a resident of the area, was driving the same route just prior to the accident while taking her children to school. She said at about 9 a.m. the passed the place where the accident would happen and was returning home when she saw rescue vehicles on the scene. “I feel sorry for the guy in a way, but there is a victim involved here,” Rahe said. “There are supposed to be chains as a backup. A few minutes earlier I was going in the same direction half an hour earlier with my kid. It could have been us.” After the collision Hall’s vehicle rolled several times. Her passenger, 39-year-old Debra Carter, was injured.
