Rockford’s junior varsity girls lacrosse team finished the season with two good wins as they closed out the season going 14-3-1. The JV girls picked up a win against Kalamazoo United’s varsity squad by the score of 13-8. Leading the way was attack player Rosie Morrisson, who added to her team-leading goal total by tallying eight goals. Also contributing on the offensive end with one goal each were Maddie Ek, Paige Howard, Sierra Homoki, Kaitlyn Phillips and Lauren Whitfield. Strong goaltending by Kelsey Larsen and Lauren Whitfield sealed the victory for the Rams. The final game of the season was against state powerhouse Okemos. The Rockford girls put it all together and came away with a 8-7 victory. Leading the Rams to victory was midfielder Aimee Hite who had four goals and an assist. Hite also added to her team-leading stats for ground balls and caused turnovers by picking up two ground balls and creating two caused turnovers. Also scoring for the Rams were Lane Dubes, Ek, Morrisson and Sawyer Rocheleau. As they have been all season, the defense played another strong game. The defense was led by Grace Degelder, Kylie Wodaski, Howard, Morgan Swartout and Tori Elliot. As with many junior varsity teams, this team faced many challenges throughout the season due to players being called up to the varsity level at different stages of the year. Despite these team changes, each girl was able to step up and fill the shoes of those girls who were promoted. This team really demonstrated what it means to be a team and work together toward a common goal.
