The Rockford Lady Rams varsity and junior varsity water polo teams had two successful home game nights this past week. Tuesday, April 24, the Portage Northern teams travelled to Rockford High School. The Rockford JV won their game 12-0 and freshman goalie Leah Munson had her first shutout. The Rockford varsity game was an important game to determine district seeding and they won their game, 14-1. Scoring goals for Rockford were Adrianna Craft (three), Macy Thompson (three), Casey Wolfer (two), Maddie Levine (two), Kara Vandawater (one), and Kristen Schnelle (one). Assists were by Levine (two) and Vandawater (one). The Rockford girls varsity is now 3-0 in the West Region District 2 with two district games remaining, including East Grand Rapids, who are also 3-0 in the district play. Thursday, April 26, the Zeeland East/West teams travelled to Rockford. The game between the varsity teams was a rematch, as the two teams had played earlier in the season after Spring Break in the championship game at the Jenison Tournament, and Zeeland came away with first place. This time Rockford came out very quickly and strong, scoring several goals. However, Zeeland answered, also scoring goals. At halftime Rockford was up 4-3. After the half, Craft was able to find opportunities to score, and the Lady Rams also stepped up the defense, allowing Zeeland only one goal in that half. The final score, 9-4 was a win for Rockford. Scoring for Rockford were Craft (three), Levine (two), Wolfer (two), and Vandawater (two). The JV also won, 8-7. Come watch the girls during the final regular season game at Rockford High School, May 3. The JV game is at 6 p.m., and will be celebrating seniors and their accomplishments on Senior Night at 7 p.m. The Lady Rams will play East Grand Rapids and determine both the winner of the OK conference and the district seeding.
