Your way, or God’s way? by PASTOR DICK RILEY Rockford United Methodist Church A little boy was having difficulty in learning the alphabet. He just couldn’t get his ABCs in the right order. One day, after a particularly stressful learning session with his mother, in which very little was accomplished, the little boy complained, “Mom, I know my ABCs! Mine are just different than yours!” I wonder how many times we act just like that little boy. We insist on going by our own rules in life rather than following the plan that God has for us. No wonder we are so stressed out at times! Speaking through the prophet Isaiah, God reminds people that His ways are not like our ways: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts,” (Isaiah 55:8). We may think that we know how to run our lives, just like the little boy who thought he knew his ABCs. But the truth of the matter is this: God alone knows what will bring us real peace and joy, and only by doing things God’s way will we ever be able to have a real life, and to experience real peace—without all the stress, strain and struggles. Visit a church of your choice this week, and find out more about that relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, which offers you that real life and that real peace that you’ve heard about from others. Experience it for yourself!
