The Rockford Rams competed in an important OK Red match on Monday, May 9, at Sunnybrook Country Club against the Hudsonville Eagles. The Rams prevailed by 12 with junior Steven Mette leading the way with a one-under-par 35, followed by Justin Ullery (38), Jake Stephan (39), Alec Dewitt (40), AJ Varekois (41) and David Keller (41). The Rams have matches against West Ottawa, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, East Kentwood, and Muskegon before the conference championship on May 19, 2011. The Rams were victorious again—155 to 159—against the Hudsonville Eagles at Braeside Golf Club on Saturday, May 14. The players dealt with July-like conditions, which were in quite a contrast to what they’ve grown accustomed to playing in this spring. The Rams were led by junior Steven Mette’s even-par 35, followed by a 39 from Jake Stephan, a 40 from Alec Dewitt and a 41 from David Keller. The Rams finished their dual season Tuesday at Muskegon against Muskegon and East Kentwood. Watch for final results in next week’s edition of The Rockford Squire.
Rockford Rams Boys Golf Team
The Rockford Rams boys golf team didn’t slide through districts by one shot this year. The Rams finished second at the District competition on Thursday, May 27 and had a 26 shot cushion. At Stonegate Golf Club in Twin Lakes, MI, Muskegon High School hosted the District I competition. The Rams finished second to Forest Hills Central with three Rams medaling. Trent Davison went home with a District Championship after defeating Jared Dalga (FHC) in a three-hole sudden death playoff. Trent’s 70 (-2) lead the way and was supported by Sam Gallup’s 72, Steven Mette’s 77, and Jake Chaffee’s 81. The Rams travel to El Dorado Golf Course in Holt for the Regional tournament on Thursday, June 3.
