Rams JV soccer wins one, ties one first week of school

Rockford’s junior varsity soccer team had two home games this week. The first game was Wednesday, Sept. 9 against the West Catholic Falcons. The Rams had an easy time with the Falcons. The first goal came at four minutes into the game. Connor Doud shot a penalty-kick bullet past the Falcons’ defense into the back of the net. The Rams didn’t have to wait long for another goal. It came five minutes later. Ben Przybylski shot a line drive into the net with an assist by Michael Becker. The Rams continued their onslaught of shots at goal. Ian Stankus shot a line drive into the back of the net away from the goalie with an assist by Doud at 12 minutes into the half. Then, four minutes later, Stankus drilled a bullet by the goalie with an assist by Victor Pulaski. With four minutes to go in the first half, Jesse Aronoff shot one by the Falcons’ goalie with an assist by Justin Mohr. With two minutes to go, Becker shot a corner kick that confused the Falcons and rolled for a goal by the Falcon defenders and goalie. The half ended with the score at Rams 6, Falcons 0. The second half was the opposite of the first. One minute into the second half, Stankus had a tap in goal. With the score being Rams 7, Falcons 0, if the Rams scored one more goal, the MHSAA “goal differential rule” would be used and the game would end. This rule states that if one team is up by eight goals over the other team, the game ends. The Rams and Falcons played with no further goals made by either team. The game ended at Rams 7, Falcons 0. On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Rams hosted the Portage Central Mustangs. This was a hard-fought game from start to finish. The Mustangs drew first blood with a goal 28 minutes into the first half. The Rams answered with a hard shot by Nick Krampe with the assist going to Ian Dayton. The first half ended with a 1-1 tie. In the second half, the Rams pressed the attack against the Mustangs.
