Rockford Venture Crew 2228 off to another adventure

January 28, 2010 // 0 Comments

Have you ever tried climbing frozen waterfall, 40 feet tall? The Rockford Venture Crew 2228 tries to go every year. They also hope to go white water rafting and have a scuba diving adventure. This is all made possible by fundraising and organization. The group holds an annual yard sale, and has recently held a lasagna fundraiser at Bostwick Lake Church. It was a success largely due to the generous donations from D&W, and 15 pounds of ground chuck from Story’s Meats in Rockford. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Previous Scouting experience is not required. The Venture Crews are run by Scouts with adults in attendance, according to Scout bylaws. Most Venture Crews have men and women adult leaders, using two-deep leadership for Scouting events. The adventures, camping and regular meetings are youth-run. To experience a program that is full of challenge and adventure, attend a meeting. Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at Bostwick Lake Church on Belmont Road in Rockford.
