Rockford’s second annual ArtCapsule event begins Monday, August 1, in downtown Rockford with artwork displayed in a variety of stores and shops. Artists work should reflect the the City of Rockford. The event, a cooperative effort between the Rockford Area Arts Commission (RAAC) and the Rockford Chamber of Commerce, will feature photography, paintings, two and three dimensional works of a variety of artists. Visitors can view and vote on the work throughout the week and again there will be a social media voting at the RAAC’s facebook page. Rockford ArtCapsule 2011 culminates Saturday, August 6 with a Taste of Rockford and live music from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Garden Club Park. This year’s Taste of Rockford will feature samples of downtown’s most flavorful fare for a dollar a taste and will take place throughout downtown at each of the City’s participating restaurants. Tickets for the Taste of Rockford can be purchased in front of the Welcome Center (located in front of Great Northern Trading Company’s door). The ArtCapsule is limited to 100 artists, who have been responsible for finding a venue at which to display their work. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Voting takes place Saturday and online through the week-long display. Jeanne Gregory, Executive Director of the Rockford Chamber, said the event was well received last year and people have been looking forward to another exciting ArtCapsule. Adding live music will contribute to the fun atmosphere.
