Photo by TOM SCOTT What a gorgeous day for an art show on Saturday, September 10 at Garden Club Park by the Rogue River. The attendance was excellent as well as the coffee, juices, morning snacks provided by the Rockford Area Arts Commission and a local baker. Sales were way up this year compared to last year’s cold and very wet day. The music was provided by Kyle Clements and his friends the Kingston Trio playing in the afternoon. Noel Skiba won best in show. All in all, it was a perfect day for an art show in downtown Rockford.
The Rams varsity boys tennis team stormed the courts with wins in all four singles flights at the Forest Hills Eastern Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10. In addition, two, three and four singles played by Ryan Korlewitz, John Smith and Luke VanFleet won in straight sets to secure their singles’ championships. The Rams were “double trouble” for their opponents Saturday as well. Seniors Matt Campbell and Zack LeMieux won their flight in fourth doubles by beating Calvin Christian, Lowell and Forest Hills Eastern in straight sets. Taking second place for Rockford in their flights were second doubles team, Thomas Hall and Mark Veitengruber, and third doubles team, Frank Tejeda and Sam Dater. First doubles team, Cade VanRooyen and Greg Witt, fought hard for a third-place finish. “This is what happens when a team comes together,” said varsity boys coach Tom Huizing. “We’ve been focusing all year in Rockford tennis on team effort.” That’s exactly what the boys showed as they gathered 20 points to finish in first place. Runner-up with 15 points was Forest Hills Eastern.
