On December 14, 2023, The Sunshine Circle of the Algoma/Gougeburg area celebrated 100 years of existence.
The contrast between these two pictures shows how much has changed. The 1928 photo shows how the women of the neighborhood made their way to the hostess’ home to gather for a meal, fellowship, and exchange of news of the day. They pieced together quilts to provide for those less fortunate. These values are still shared by the women in the second photo, who meet at the Algoma Township hall the second Thursday of the month, except January, February, July and August.
Sunshine Circle supports various charities in the area, and continues to give quilts to those who have suffered a fire or other misfortune. These women still enjoy the potluck lunch, and giving back to the community, and look forward to their time together.
